3 Keys to Achieving Your Biggest Dreams

On average, Americans touch their phone over 2600 times per day, but how many times do we touch our dreams?

When I asked this question to room of about 100 people last month during a presentation, it was meant to be a rhetorical question to awaken people to our messed up priorities.

Nonetheless I did heard some replies such as :

“not even a quarter of that”

“maybe once a day”

As bad as the answer may be, I don’t believe technology is the problem. The problem is our mindset. Many people have forgotten their meaning in life and are chasing the wrong thing. In my humble opinion, I believe most people use their phone as a distraction to avoid the fact that they are not living a fulfilling life by pursuing their dreams.

what is The Biggest Regret People Have About Their Life?

Bronnie Ware, an Australian nurse and counselor, spent years taking care of terminally ill people. Most of them had 12 weeks or less to live. As part of therapy, she would ask them about any regrets they had about their lives. She asked if there was anything they would do differently if given a second chance.

She discovered that the number one regret the dying have about their life is:

“I wish I pursued my dreams and aspirations, and not the life others expected of me”

Will that be you? I sincerely hope not.

As we roll into this New Year I challenge you to dig a little deeper this time around and go after what you really want in life. Yes, I want you to lost weight and eat healthier but I really want you to go after that big dream of yours. Because that is one of the keys to sparking achieving all of your goals. You need something audacious and inspiring to launch you out of bed each morning.

Yes it may be scary, you may have given up hope in the past, but right now if you can read this and are still breathing it is not too late.

Last year I achieved my childhood dream of becoming a professional athlete. Trust me, there was a point I had given up hope when I was frustrated working a jobs I hated for nearly 10 years. Numbing myself in alcohol, tv and fast food. But when I made the decision to truly go after my dream, when I said this is the only option, no plan b, that is when I became successful.

I obsessively studies the keys to success and along the path I found some simple yet effective principles to achieve massive success.

These 3 steps will help you get unstuck, uncover your purpose in life and achieve your biggest dreams.

But you have to focus!

Put the phone on airplane mode, grab a notebook, put your headphones on and lock in!

#1 Meditation: uncover your life’s purpose by going within

The starting point to any journey is having a clear destination. Meditation is one of the most effective paths to gaining clarity about our life’s purpose.  It’s helps you hear your inner voice and connect with the universe.

For those unfamiliar with meditation, all you have to do is find a quiet place, sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes and begin taking deep breaths. Don’t think about anything, just focus on your breathing.

Another form of meditation I have used to uncover purpose is visualization. At the beginning of my journey I read the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. In the book, Stephen Covey suggests using a visualization activity where by imagining our own funeral we can gain clarity into our life’s purpose. Consider what you want to people to say about you when you're gone. What do you want to be remembered for? Begin with the end in mind. Start there and work your way back to the present.

#2 Journaling: writing down your life’s purpose, Dreams and goals.

Once you what you truly want out of life, write it down. I suggest writing in the inside cover of your journal so you can view everyday. You can also make a copy to post on your wall or vision board if you have one.

Begin each day by writing down your daily goals. Write 1 or 2 things you will do that day to get you closer to your big dream.

What does the research say? There was a study done where they took 267 people there were men and women from all over the world, and from all walks of life.  What they discovered in this study was that you become 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams by simply writing them down and reciting them on a regular basis.

Writing it down also forces you to be specific and clear on what you really want, and shows that you are really serious about it.

When you write down your dream, it becomes tangible. You can see it and touch it. Touch your dream everyday, multiple times a day!

# 3 Affirmations: Speak it and Believe it.

Now that you have written down your dream and goals, it’s time create affirmations and speak them into existence.

An affirmation is a powerful statement that you speak with confidence. For example: “I am a professional athlete” ...  “I am a CEO” ... “I am in excellent health”….“I am wealthy”

Whatever your dreams are, turn them into powerful statements that you can speak into existence. Read and repeat your affirmations first thing in the morning and last thing before you go to bed at night. Read them multiple times throughout the day to keep your mind focused on what you truly desire.

You can also listen to affirmations which is another great way to reinforce the habits and results you want to attain. I regularly listen to affirmations when I’m walking to the train or going for a run. I put together a success affirmation video which you can used while you workout or any time you need a boost. I recommend listening to this with headphones and playing it multiple times a day.

Congratulations you have just received my master keys to success. Now understand this, I can give you the keys to the lamborghini, but it’s on you to drive it.

It’s time to take massive action. Experts have suggested that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. So as you begin to depart on your journey, commit to at least 21 days of your best effort. Believe and trust the process. There will be ups and downs, but just keep going.

Gratitude: The Most Powerful Way to Start Your Day

Serious question: What is the most powerful thing you can for your health when you wake up each morning?

Is it exercise? Or maybe drink a glass of water?

Well if you said practice gratitude, then you are correct. That’s right, it may sound very simple and some people may not believe it, but practicing gratitude benefits us on an emotional, psychological, and even physical level.

How do you it? It can be as simple as saying thank you to the universe, to God, the creator, to the source or whatever you believe in.

But if you truly want to make a major impact, you have to write it down.

According to research by UC Davis psychologist and author Robert Emmons, the world's leading scientific expert on gratitude, we can significantly increase well-being and life satisfaction by keeping a gratitude journal.

The benefits also include:

  • stronger immune system

  • higher levels of positive emotion

  • lower blood pressure

  • less feeling of being lonely and isolated

Now the most important question: Are you going to take action?

My challenge to all you optimal beings out there is to start keeping a gratitude journal. Instead of checking your phone, pick up your journal and write one thing you are grateful for each morning. Saying and thinking it is fine, but when you write it down the benefits are even more powerful as it becomes part of your subconscious programming.

Here are some examples from my journal:

I am thankful for waking up this morning.

I am thankful for good health.

I am thankful for having the freedom to pursue my dream.

It’s that simple, yet so powerful.

If you need any further help along the path to unlocking your optimal being, feel free to connect with me and we can make a plan to get you to your dreams.

Infinite Love and Gratitude,

Top 5 Books for a Massive Mindset Shift

What is the big deal about your mindset?

Mindset is your established way of thinking. For some this leads to a life of wealth and opportunity but for many, mindset confines them to fear, struggle and unfulfillment. For years, I was confined to my own way of thinking due to the environment I grew up in. I was lead to believe that that entities like the government, public school system, medical industry and the police were solely responsible for my unhappiness and misfortune. Now it may be true those entities weren’t out to always help me, but thanks to a trip to the emergency room a few years ago I awakened to the fact that my health and happiness were ultimately up to me. If was gonna reach my greatest potential I had to take control of my own destiny.

Live in the Moment: The Path to Inner Peace & Happiness

Live in the moment.

Be present.

Live in the now.

Be Mindful.

What does all this really mean and why should we care about this stuff?

For me living in the now has been a path to inner peace and happiness. Over the last few years I have really focused on becoming more present, and as a result I have made significant growth in many areas of my life and have achieved great periods of happiness.  It is essential to take a moment each day to just breathe deeply and appreciate everything that we currently have.

Like many people I have struggled with regrets of the past, as well as, anxiety about the future. Having such thoughts cross our minds is part of the human experience, however these thoughts can become an issue when we allow them to consume us. Overanalyzing past "mistakes" has often left me paralyzed from taking action. It's been a process, but I have learned the overcome these issues to experience greater periods of happiness.

How do we achieve and sustain greater periods of happiness?

Kids are the ultimate example of sustained happiness. I truly believe this is because they are continuously living in the moment. They don’t have much of past to regret and they're not in a hurry to jump to the future. Why would they want to rush into the future when they see most grown ups are stressed out and unhappy. Children can easily focus on the what they are presently doing and they enjoy every moment.

So how to do we as big kids and adults get to this happy place called the present and how do we stay there? There are a few methods I have uncovered for being present and re-gaining the inner peace and joy I had as a kid. Now, if you are ready to become more present, follow me one this journey.

Living in the now begins with letting go of our regrets and negative thoughts of the past. Let that shit go!

Many of us have past regrets that haunt us on a daily basis. I'm not saying these thoughts are invalid, but remember what you focus on is what will grow. It's not easy to let things go however it is possible. In fact I have found a rather simple method for forgetting the past and focusing on the present.

I will give away this not so secret method, however you have to be ready to receive it. It requires open-mindedness and the belief that it will work. I don't know if it's just human nature, but we tend to think solutions have to be complex and/or sold to us in a pill bottle. Truth is, most our mental, physical, and emotional problems can be solved from within.

The method is use to let go of the past and focus on the now is called:

Conscious Breathing

Conscious Breathing for me is the art of being aware of each breath we are inhaling and exhaling from our bodies. It’s a way to slow down from the daily rush of obligations and stresses/anxieties that block our happiness. It is a very effective tool and anyone can learn to harness it's power to become more present and achieve greater happiness. Now let's move to the action phase.

My detailed method for Conscious Breathing:

Making a daily connection to Mother Earth is proven to have many health benefits such as anxiety reduction and can also improve sleep quality.

Making a daily connection to Mother Earth is proven to have many health benefits such as anxiety reduction and can also improve sleep quality.

  • Begin by finding a quiet place where you won’t be distracted by people talking,  or noise pollution from cars, tv's and other random city sounds. I recommend an outdoor location like a park or forest preserve, but a quiet room indoors can also work if you can’t get outside. If you are outside, take your shoes/socks off and put your feet on the ground. Making this connection to the ground will promote relaxation and provide a natural energy boost as you receive charges from the Mother Earth.

The next steps can be modified as needed. Do what feels comfortable and natural to you.

  • Find a comfortable position sitting or laying in the grass.
  • Close your eyes and completely relax your body.

  • Take a slow deep breath in through your nostrils. Inhale for at least 4 second count.

  • Now slowly exhale, releasing all negative thoughts. Your exhale should match the length of your inhale.

  • Focus on breathing into your belly rather than your chest. (Or as Elliott Hulse calls it “Breathing into your balls” lol)

  • Empty your mind, concentrating solely on your breathing and avoiding thinking about the past or future. These thoughts will distract you and make this exercise ineffective.

  • Repeat this breathing sequencing until you can forget about everything else except the breathing. Eventually you will experience an overwhelming sense of calmness and inner peace.

Being conscious of each breath causes us to slow down and focus only on the current moment. We feel the air flowing into your body and giving us life.

Initially, this may be difficult to do this at first without your mind wandering or without those negative thoughts sneaking in, but don't give up just keep doing it. Like most skills we want to develop, conscious breathing takes time and practice to master, but the more you do it the better you will become.

Remember to trust the process and never rush the process.

How often should we do it?

Conscious Breathing  is part of my daily rituals and I usually begin my day with at least 20 minutes of it and often combine with slow stretches I call Movement Meditation.  If you don't have 20 minutes then just start with 5 or 10 minutes. Even starting with a few minutes will allow you to start reaping the benefits. I recommend doing it at least once a day but I also suggest doing it whenever you experience moments of stress and anxiety. If you are an athlete, dancer, movement artist etc, I encourage you to do this prior your performance adding visualization for even great effectiveness.

Benefits for Conscious Breathing:

  • Inner Peace

  • Reduced Stress

  • Reduced Anxiety

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Acceptance and happiness

  • Mental Clarity

  • Confidence Boost

If you made it this far thank you for reading, but what is knowledge without action? If you are struggling with anxiety, stress etc... please try this out for yourself. Do it everyday for at least 3 weeks (it takes 21 day to form most habits) and let me know how it works for you. If you need any additional help with any of the steps send me an email or leave your question in the comments below.  I truly hope this helps you all be more present and increase your happiness.

Small Steps, Big Vision - How I created the plan that turned my biggest dream into reality.

As children we all dreamed about the amazing things we do "some day" when we grew up. But we eventually grew up and something bad happened, many of our dreams became watered down because society told us we have to be "realistic". Tragically, most of us are not living the life we truly wanted when we were kids, in our purest and most honest state. Instead we are living in the comfort zone, working or pursuing a "safe" job, and living a "normal" life.

Well, I don't believe this is how anyone really wants to live. I know we all have crazy dreams and my mission is to help people re-discover these dreams and make them a reality. If this sounds like you, then continue ahead as I map it all out for you. If you are happy being in the comfort zone, then STOP NOW AND DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER: MINDSHIFTING DANGER AHEAD!

How do we achieve our biggest dreams? First of all, we must know we really want in life, which I call having a vision or what Napolean Hill refers to as a definite purpose. If you are struggling to find direction and need help unlocking your vision, watch this video first to learn the methods that have helped me. If you already know what you want, continue reading.

Never downsize your dream, to fit someone else’s perception of you.

Knowing what we want is great, but now how do we get what we want? We do this by taking the dream out of our head and making it tangible. That means writing it down on paper (or typing it in a word document).  And do not be conservative here, we must make sure it is the biggest dream possible because if we aim low we get low. Aim as high a possible. Never downsize your dreams! - Side note: I prefer paper and pen, because it's been scientifically proven that the physical act of writing creates a deeper understanding and better memory versus typing.

Once we have written down our dream, we break it down into smaller steps called objectives and then into even smaller daily steps. These smaller steps are called tactics, we perform these to get us closer to the objectives, which in turn bring us closer to our big goal aka the dream.

Is this all making sense to you or do you need to see a real life example? Well, I have real life proof this works. Below is the exact plan I used to achieve my goal of competing on American Ninja Warrior.

Goal : Compete on American Ninja Warrior in spring of 2016

Objective 1.1: Build ninja-level grip strength, balance and muscular endurance

  • Tactic 1.1.1: Rock climb once a week at climbing gym or outdoor location

  • Tactic 1.1.2: Take Parkour class once a week and practice on my own twice a week

  • Tactic 1.1.3: Gauge progress by running courses at local obstacle

  • gyms once a month.

Objective 1.2: Create an incredible submission video by winter 2015 deadline

  • Tactic 1.2.1: Brainstorm ideas for storyline and presentation

  • Tactic 1.2.2: Compile footage of my ninja training and my story.

  • Tactic 1.2.2: Meet with video production crew to begin creating high quality video.

Now as you can see from my example: once our plan is completed, something magical happens. The crazy dream we always had in our head transforms into our reality, WTF!! Yes it is no longer just a dream, now what we actually have is a goal. It’s still a crazy-huge goal, but we no longer fear it because we know all we have to do is take the small steps aka daily tactics.

Everything becomes clear once we have a plan in place. The crazy mountain we once thought we could never climb has been reduced to little steps that we know we can easily conquer each day.

Knowing is not enough, we must apply.
— Bruce Lee

October 10K16 Challenge

Quick Update: Before taking on the push-up challenge, make sure you are doing pre-hab exercises to avoid injuries such as shoulder Impingement, tendonitis and rotator cuff tear! This is a very common injury (it happened to me in 2016) for people who do a lot of push-ups and bench presses without doing things like external rotations and y-raises. I took on this challenge twice and suffered from shoulder impingement because I didn’t do enough shoulder stability and prehab exercises. If you don’t know what those are or how to do them I strongly suggest that you watch the Shoulder Health video to get all of the exercises and tips to stay healthy. GOOD LUCK FAM!

Original Post:

We are officially in the month of October, so let the madness begin. Inspired by my East Coast bar fam who tagged me on the 10,000 push-up challenge last year, I am doing it again. This time I'm adding a Ninja level upgrade thanks to Jason aka Chi-Town Ninja. Here are the details:

Ninja Level Upgrade:

  • 5,000 Pull-ups. For this I'll be using different grips as well including softballs, climbing holds and nunchucks to train or Ninja Warrior.

That's really it, go for 10K and do your best. Even if you don't hit 10K you'll be happy to say you were able to do more than you ever thought you could in a month. If you are feeling ninja add in the pull-ups.

Use hashtag #GOINFINITE to join the challenge.

Here's my daily numbers from last year. I started a day late but still made it to 10K. There were good days when I felt unstoppable getting over 1,000 reps and then there were also very bad days when I felt like quitting. This challenge is just as much mental as physical. You will question everything but my biggest pice of advice is just KEEP MOVING FORWARD.
